Savoring the Journey

Step Out of Your Cage

Jul 01, 2025

How many of you are music lovers? Music speaks to my heart and soul, and allows me to express what is inside. My husband and I served in choir for many years, and no matter how tired or stressed I was, I always felt better once I arrived at choir practice. Occasionally there is a song with lyrics that make me stop and go, "WOW!" Cages (by We The Kingdom - 2020) is one of those songs. I first heard it while trying to put together a playlist for the gym. I loved the music and the beat, but I was blown away when I really listened to the lyrics.

Church is often thought of as a place where we have to show our "Sunday best" and look as though we have it all together. That is not a statement against any church or its people. I have been a member of some wonderful churches with godly people who taught the Word and genuinely loved others. I learned a lot, and God used my time there to mold me spiritually. Somehow, though, for most of us, there was still a fear of really letting our guard down. There are many reasons: our own insecurities, having been hurt by someone in the past, or perhaps the enemy telling us we are the only ones who feel that way or struggle with that issue.

What if we could do what the song says? What if we got real honest? What if we took a risk? What if we opened up our hearts and let others see in? What if we took our masks off and stopped trying to fit in? What if we came out of our cages and began allowing others to see the real us just like Paul did in Acts 22? He never tried to downplay his past but used his testimony to witness to others. Revelation 12  tells us Satan is defeated by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. How can we give a testimony of what God is doing or has done in our lives if we are afraid to step out of our cages?

If you or someone you know has a desire to see this kind of intimacy and freedom develop further in the women in your church, Savor can help. Savor Mentorship is a program developed by women for women through the prompting of the  Holy Spirit. All of us at Savor have witnessed the amazing  freedom that comes when women feel safe, loved, and supported enough to step out of their cages and get honest with God and each other. That is our desire for every woman.
