Where Do I Start? How to Read the Bible for Yourself
Mar 11, 2026
How do you read the Bible?
Of course, we can open it and read the words on the page. But how do you read the Bible in a way that allows it to truly penetrate your heart and transform your mind?
I host one of two women’s mentorship groups each month from our local church, and during our second meeting the topic of how to read the Bible came up. One woman, a very new Christian, shared that she simply wasn’t sure how to begin reading Scripture on her own. Interestingly, another woman spoke up and said that although she had been a Christian for many years and grew up in church, no one had ever actually taught her how to read the Bible either.
This is something many women share—both those who are new in their faith and those who have known Christ for years.
Often, we rely on devotionals or Bible studies that walk us through a particular topic or book of the Bible. These can be incredibly helpful, and they often teach us what God’s Word says in a specific passage or help us better understand a theme. For a long time, that’s exactly what I relied on as well.
But eventually a question begins to surface: How do we study God’s Word for ourselves without feeling intimidated by it?

Let’s Continue the Conversation
How did you learn to read the Bible?
Was there someone who guided you, or did you discover your own rhythm over time?
If you decide to take the course, I would truly love to hear your thoughts. Did you find it helpful? Do you think it could help other women grow more confident in reading and understanding God’s Word?
Feel free to email your thoughts or questions to [email protected].
Father, thank you for Your Word and the Holy Spirit who guides us as we discover all you have to teach us. Please give me a desire to continue to learn and grow in my walk with You. I ask that you fill each woman with knowledge and wisdom as she discovers how to read Scripture for herself.
Until next month,
