Two weeks with the grands! 😯

The Adventure
We recently had the privilege of keeping our two grandsons for two weeks while my daughter and son-in-law celebrated their 20th anniversary. Now my grandsons (14 and 5) are wonderful boys, but I have to be honest and tell you that just a little trepidation would creep into my mind at different times. Not fear of how they would behave, but fear of how I would handle the change in my routine. 😟 You see, I sometimes struggle with selfishness and a need for routine! Since I retired, I have come to enjoy that leisure time in the morning with my coffee and God's Word. That is definitely a good thing, but I can easily allow it to become an excuse for not doing what needs to be done. (That is also why I have a difficult time getting to the gym, but that's a whole other blog!)
The Preparation
I decided to do two things to prepare for this adventure. First, I prayed God would intervene and give me both the desire and the energy to do whatever was needed. Secondly, I gave myself permission to put almost everything else second to caring for them because I knew this time was a gift. Time with the Lord is non-negotiable, but most everything else is not really critical. Even so, occasionally I would find myself losing my patience because I was tired. Our Savor Mentorship Program covers an entire month on emotions. What I learned through that teaching helped me recognize the root cause for my impatience, so I was able to deal with it much more quickly than I would have in previous years. It was not anyone else's fault; I simply needed to rest. Apologizing to a 5-year-old can be both humbling and refreshing.

The Challenge
Is God taking you out of your comfort zone? It might stretch you, but go ahead and decide now to prepare for the adventure and trust Him to see you through. Proverbs 16:9 says, "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." Seek His help to establish your steps and enjoy the gift He is giving you!
