Can Conflict Be Good?

Season #5

Conflict is inevitable in any relationship–but especially any close relationship like marriage, friends and or children James 4:1 What causes quarrels among you and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? We will all face conflicts in relationships bc of self centered desires, we all have these come out at times! The important thing is to recognize it. How to resolve disagreements in a godly way. Importance of listening, taking responsibility for your actions: James 1:19: "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." Proverbs 28:13: "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy" Psalm 141:3 Set a guard O Lord over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Use "I" statements: Ephesians 4:15: "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Control hostility and anger: Proverbs 14:29: Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly. Set boundaries–don’t overexplain yourself: Matthew 5:37: Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.” Seek reconciliation rather than winning an argument or I told you so, I was right, etc (and let it be over–no resentment or using mistakes in future arguments–no hitting below the belt) Eph 4:31:Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice And, finally, forgiveness! Colossians 3:13: "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."
